What Is BookishThoughts.com?

  • BookishThoughts.com is a place for thinking people like you, who love not only good writing, but also good writing about good writing. If you like to read or write (especially about books), or you're wondering what to read next, we hope you'll find something here that pleases or (at least challenges or surprises) you.
  • BookishThoughts.com features original reviews of books and of a few selected booksellers; we hope the reviews themselves will be enjoyable reading, besides providing you some ideas about what to read and why. You'll also find some fiction, poetry, and commentary here that haven't been published elsewhere. We also provide links to related content we find here and there around the Web.
  • BookishThoughts.com is a place where you can comment on what you see. Comments are carefully moderated by actual humans, so that we don't unwittingly find ourselves posting flames or free advertising for second mortgages, pyramid schemes, or methods for enhancing selected body parts. But if we like your comment, we'll post it in a fairly timely matter. Criticism and praise are both welcome, as long as each is intelligent and civil. We're not fond of anonymous comments, but if you can make a persuasive case for anonymity, we'll consider it.
  • BookishThoughts.com is a place where you can contribute. Some of you will want to do some writing -- which, if it meets our standards, we'll be happy to publish here. We'd be happy to pay for it, too, if we could, but for now this site operates on a shoestring. You'll retain the copyright for your own work, at least.
  • BookishThoughts.com is not the New York Public Library or Amazon.com. We hope you find some things here that make you want to come back often, but we're not trying to be all things to all people. We won't try to review every book, or even every bestseller. Quantity is fine, but we prefer quality.
