Laissez Faire BooksAs you might guess from the name, Laissez Faire Books features books on everything related to liberty, usually at healthy discounts. You'll find books on history, biography, philosophy, politics, economics, law, education, the environment, culture, current events, terrorism, etc. We're fond of their free printed catalog, too.

Abebooks.comMuch as we love browsing in actual used bookstores, we must admit that we have better luck finding specific rare, used, and out-of-print titles at Abebooks, which indexes the collections of a vast network of independent bookstores across North America and handles transactions. We've had numerous positive experiences with Abebooks, and never a negative one.

More Book Reviews |
BrothersJudd.comThis site has a large number of reviews, some fairly long and some as short as a letter grade. Like BookishThoughts.com, it reviews some classics and other excellent but not recent books, rather than focusing solely on bestsellers. We don't always agree -- such as when they give Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment a letter grade of "C," but the reviews tend to be well-written and show evidence of thought. The site also has a blog, among other attractions.

Conservative Thought on the Web |
Jewish World ReviewBesides material related to Judaism and Jewish culture, this site offers commentary from numerous syndicated columnists, including George Will, Thomas Sowell, Mona Charen, and others. Better still, it has archives of these authors' columns going back, in some cases, for years. JWR offers Mallard Fillmore and other cartoons. We recommend subscribing to the free daily JWR e-mailing, which is easier to navigate than the home page. If you get hooked on JWR, which is hard not to do, you might consider a small contribution. It is largely the work of one overworked man, Binyamin L. Jolkovsky, Editor-in-Chief.

RealClearPolitics.comThis site combines links to news and commentary from many sources with plenty of its own content.

History, Biography, Reference |
WorldHistory.comWorldHistory.com offers a vast and growing collection of materials, including more than 175,000 articles from Wikipedia, the online, open-source encyclopedia. Further growth and a major redesign are in the offing; it should be worth watching.
